Infinite Corporation marks its 50th year on the IBM midrange

January 7, 2026 — Infinite Corporation

Infinite Corporation this month marks fifty years of building software for the IBM midrange platform. Founded in 1975, the company has produced tools across every generation of the platform — from the System/3 through the AS/400 and iSeries to today's IBM i — and now focuses that half-century of expertise on helping organizations modernize and move those applications forward.

That depth is the foundation of the company's modernization approach: because Infinite understands what runs beneath RPG, COBOL, and DB2/400, it can move these applications without breaking them. The company reports more than 100,000 installations across 56 countries, including public-sector migrations such as the United States Department of Justice.

Over the past two years Infinite has assembled a complete modernization suite spanning the interface, platform, data, and developer-tooling layers: Infinite i recompiles applications to native Linux on AWS, Azure, or GCP; Infinite Cloud turns 5250 green screens into modern web interfaces; Infinite DataLink migrates DB2/400 data to MySQL; and Infinite Studio brings a modern VS Code IDE to RPG and ILE COBOL developers.

"For fifty years our job has been to make the IBM midrange more capable," said Dr. Bruce Acacio of Infinite Corporation. "That hasn't changed — what's changed is that the most valuable thing we can do for these applications now is help them leave the platform that constrains them, while keeping every line of business logic intact."
