Infinite Studio enters private beta for RPG & ILE COBOL

June 9, 2026 — Infinite Corporation

Infinite Corporation today announced the private beta of Infinite Studio, a modern integrated development environment for RPG, ILE COBOL, CL, and DDS built as an extension to Visual Studio Code. For the first time, IBM i developers gain the full experience of the world's most widely used editor — without leaving the languages and source they already maintain.

Infinite Studio brings syntax highlighting, IntelliSense code completion, refactoring, native Git version control, integrated debugging, and AI-assisted suggestions trained on RPG and COBOL idioms. Developers can branch, diff, and pull-request their RPG source like any modern codebase, and lean on inline AI to explain legacy routines, generate tests, and propose fixes.

The motivation is a tooling gap that has persisted for decades. SEU was last meaningfully updated in the 1990s, and while RDi modernized the experience, it remains heavy and tied to a shrinking platform. Meanwhile the wider development world standardized on VS Code. "RPG and ILE COBOL run the operational core of thousands of enterprises, yet the people who maintain them have been working in tools a generation behind everyone else," said Dr. Bruce Acacio of Infinite Corporation. "Infinite Studio closes that gap — and, just as importantly, makes IBM i teams easier to recruit for."

Infinite Studio is available now to a small group of RPG and ILE COBOL shops in private beta, with general availability targeted for the third quarter of 2026. Organizations interested in joining can request access through the Infinite Corporation website.
